Automation
What the game can do for you, where each switch lives, what it is set to out of the box, and which ones are worth changing in your first week.
Updated ·patch v2.0.5
Do this in your first week
- Change nothing on day one. The defaults are sensible: Auto-Dispatch is on, popups skip errands, nothing picks rewards for you.
- When claiming quests starts to feel like busywork, set Auto-Pick Quest Outcome to Gold.
- Tap Collect All in each region's city at least every 12 hours. There is no longer a setting that collects for you.
- Do not turn on autonomy for a member who is still Unclassed unless you are happy for the game to choose their class. See below.
Every switch here can be turned back off at any time. The only thing on this page with a lasting cost is an autonomy-assigned class, which costs 500 gold to change.
The quest settings
Open Settings, then the Gameplay tab. It is grouped into collapsible sections; the ones below live in Automation unless noted.
Settings > Gameplay > Automation
Lets queued quests (+ Queue Next) and Auto-Loops send your party out by themselves when a quest finishes, including while you are away. Off hides those controls and stops anything already armed; nobody leaves camp unless you send them.
When to use it: Leave it on. It does nothing until you queue or loop a quest, and it is how an idle game keeps working overnight.
Settings > Gameplay > Automation
Pills: None, Gold, Rep, XP, Gear. Some finished quests offer a choice of reward outcome. With a preference set, the game picks the best option for that preference and claims it without asking. Hand-written story choices are never auto-picked.
When to use it: Set it to Gold once the reward popups start to feel like busywork (Gold is what you are short of early). Even on None, a quest with a follow-up queued behind it auto-picks the Gold option so the queue keeps moving.
Settings > Gameplay > Automation
After a flawless victory, the next Proving Grounds stage starts by itself. Off keeps the Continue button and waits for your tap.
When to use it: Leave it on.
Settings > Gameplay > Automation (from reputation level 6)
Controls the prompt that offers to set up a new recruit automatically. Turn it back on here if you tapped "Don't ask again".
When to use it: Personal preference.
Settings > Gameplay > Automation, Command section (from Chapter 2)
Hands every beat (a decision point inside a quest) to your crew, so quests never stop and wait for you.
When to use it: Leave it off at first so you see what beats are. Turn it on if you play once a day and do not want to answer them. See Command.
Settings > Gameplay > Popups & Alerts > Quest Popup
Not an Automation switch but a choice of when the claim popup opens by itself: All, Skip Errands, Story Only or Off. Skip Errands (the default) pops up for real quests but lets errands and other location activities finish quietly into the "N rewards ready" chip.
When to use it: Keep the default. Pick Story Only if popups interrupt you; the chip still shows everything waiting.
Automation never spends Command, and queued or looped quests do not get beats.
Collecting production
Do this: open the Map, tap a region's city, and press Collect All. It empties every building in that region (including guild and research reservoirs) in one tap. The button only appears when something is waiting.
- No auto-collect setting. The old Auto-Collect Production switch has been removed. Buildings fill their own storage and stop at the cap until you collect.
- Do not leave it past 12 hours. A building left uncollected for more than 12 hours starts to decay (5% an hour, up to 50%), which cuts its production by up to 25% until you pay gold to restore it.
- Claiming quests. The quest claim popup has its own Collect All (n) button that claims every finished quest at once; ones that need a choice are counted separately.
More on buildings in Set up your base.
Member autonomy (auto-pick essences and gear)
Where: open a member, go to the Growth tab, and find the Autonomy section. It has Auto-pick essences (with an essence rarity cap and a Min held to use count), Auto-pick equipment (with a rarity cap) and a Re-optimize all button. Everything is off by default, per member.
- What it does: fills empty slots with the best-matching essences and gear you already own, right when you switch it on and again whenever you identify an essence, receive one, or craft gear. It never replaces something you slotted yourself. Re-optimize all does replace choices, but leaves bound essences alone. It never buys, crafts or spends anything.
- The class catch: if autonomy fills both essence slots on an Unclassed member, it assigns the class those two essences point to straight away, without showing you the archetype picker. The member's screen marks it as a default, but changing it later costs 500 gold (your free first pick is used up). Seasonal classes that are still locked are never assigned this way.
- Whole roster at once: the Roster screen has an Autonomy button that sets the same filters for everyone. It sits in the quick-action row, which you turn on under Settings > Gameplay > Interface & Shortcuts > Roster Quick Actions (off by default). Mercenaries are skipped.
When to use it: after a member has a class, turn on Auto-pick essences so they keep their empty slots filled as you identify more. For an Unclassed member, equip the second essence yourself and choose the class in the picker (or pick "Decide Later"), then turn autonomy on.
Battle speed and Skip
The battle screen has a speed row: 1x, 2x and Skip. Skip plays the rest of the fight out instantly and shows the result.
If you press Skip while in Manual mode, the game hands the rest of that fight to Full Auto and then skips it. This also works in expedition fights, which force Manual. It is not saved: the next fight starts in your usual mode again. More in Combat basics.
