Race — Deep dive (extinct)
Orcs — chose mixing over extinction. Became the Rendrown.
Ignathar's corrected attempt at a fire-aligned race — better than the Vilewalkers but doomed by mixing with them and reduced further by Zynthara's pre-Sealing purge. The surviving pure orcs realised the bloodline could not sustain itself and voluntarily merged with fire-linked humans rather than fade in isolation. The Rendrown are what came out of that decision; the orcs themselves were extinct by approximately Year 4,500.

History
Creation (pre-Sealing)
Ignathar created the orcs as a corrected attempt at a fire-aligned intelligent race, modelled after kidnapped dwarves and elves. The intent was to capture the better aspects of his nature without the destructive excess of the earlier Vilewalkers. The result was partly successful — orcs were bold, motivated, and passionate, with the negative traits milder than expected.
Years 1,000 – 5,000
Champion Era. Orcs spread under Ignathar's three-champion system, often as shock troops rather than civilians. The cultural identity hardened into tribal-warrior society. Mixing with Vilewalkers occurred at the margins; the products were extremely dangerous and increasingly common.
Year 0 — The Sealing purge
Zynthara destroyed most of Ignathar's Orcs (alongside the Vilewalkers) to concentrate Fire essence for sealing. The pure orc population was reduced to a small surviving remnant; the Vilewalker-orc mixes that escaped the purge became some of the most dangerous monster strains in the modern world.
Years 3,000 – 4,500 (the mixing and extinction)
The remaining pure orc bloodline could not sustain itself. Internal recognition that extinction was inevitable produced the voluntary mixing decision around Year 3,000: rather than fade in isolation, the pure orcs would merge with fire-linked humans. The mixing took roughly fifteen hundred years; the result was the Rendrown.
Post-mixing
Pure orcs were extinct as a distinct race by approximately Year 4,500. The Rendrown carry orcish blood and preserve fragments of orcish culture — religious veneration of the ancestors, certain combat traditions, blood-magic conventions that draw on orcish precedents. Pure orc culture, however, is reconstructed rather than continuous.
Cultural fragments in the Rendrown
Endurance-trial ancestry
The Rendrown Endurance Trial (a coming-of-age survival ritual) descends partly from orcish warrior-trials. The structural form is orcish; the modern details are Rendrown.
Fire-veneration patterns
Orcish worship of Ignathar continues in attenuated form in Rendrown ancestor-veneration. The shift is from worship of Ignathar directly to worship of the orcish ancestors who worshipped him.
Warrior naming
Orcs earned their adult names through deeds in combat — a tradition the Rendrown preserve, applied to a wider range of qualifying deeds.
Tribal confederation form
Rendrown clan-based political structure is descended from orcish tribal confederations rather than human noble-house systems.
Notes on extinction
- · Pure orcs were genuinely extinct, not merely rare. The 'extinction' here is a real biological event, completed by the late Champion Era. Modern claims of pure-orc ancestry are uniformly fraudulent.
- · The Vilewalker-orc mixes that escaped Zynthara's purge are monsters, not a race. They reproduce, mutate, and prey on living populations — but they are not considered intelligent in any meaningful cultural sense. Most are concentrated in the Northern Wastes.
- · Ignathar's last surviving orc-champion exiled the proto-Rendrown after the mixing decision. The reasons are debated — some accounts say the champion was disgusted by the dilution, others say he was protecting them from his own collapsing political structure. Either way, the Rendrown were left to fend for themselves.
- · Vault content on pure orcs is historical only. No current canon supports any modern presence.
